Find on your GPS and copy to your computer a non-TTS voice (VPM file)Ģ. This is what I do to create my own Garmin voice files:ġ. VPM files are in the /Garmin/Voice/ folder (GPS or SD cars). It allows you to create and edit your own, personalized non-TTS voice for Garmin. Now it just does it.Just recently I discovered this great voice utility: Voice Utility. I guess it used to wait until it finished looking up the voice tag and saying "recalculating" before it would actually start recalculating. Interestingly, since I got rid of "recalculating" the system seems much faster at recalculating the route. Me -> YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO BE RECALCULATING IF YOU HADN'T SENT ME TO AN EMPTY FIELD YOU STUPID." Well, you probably get the picture. The last thing I need when I'm unhappy about that is a nav system with attitude. Just accept the fact that I'm going off route for a while and roll with it.Ĥ) Sometimes the GPS (even google maps) sends you to the wrong place (like an empty field instead of a hotel). I don't want to hear about recalculating. Not one that is constantly giving me their passive aggressive "recalculating" comment to add to my stress in dealing with this stuff.ģ) Sometimes I want to take side trips on my way to my destination and I don't want to mess with the clumsy controls. The less good news is that I didn't make a really high quality voice file and as near as I can tell, you only get one shot to change the voice files with a new map update.
The good news is I just did the 2020 update with my custom voice file added to the USB and was pleasantly surprised to find that it worked. Just used cheap mike in a not so quiet environment and quickly recorded a voice file (with "relcalculating" left silent). I wasn't sure it would work, so I didn't put a lot of effort into it.
The only way that seemed like it might work was to create a new voice file using Garmin's free Voice Studio software. I was REALLY tired of hearing "RECALCULATING" so I looked for a way to get rid of that prompt.
